Let's Do Our Part (Sandy Hook Elementary School)

Last Friday (1/14/12) there was a tragic event in Newtown Connecticut that rattled the country. A gunman broke into the Sandy Hook Elementary School and open fired on innocent students and teachers, killing 20 students and 6 school teachers that day. This event has devastated the country and has definitely had an effect on the instructors who can sympathize with the families and first responders from this event. Capitol Fire Training instructor Dave Polikoff’s and his wife Cindy Polikoff, felt the urge to do something to help. Cindy decided she wanted to donate money to the parents and families of the children and teachers to help off-set the cost for funeral services. Capitol Fire Training is partnering with the Don’t Panic Foundation to help get this idea spread nationwide, so that we can get as much help to the families as soon as possible.
What we need you to do is go to the link provided on Don’t Panic’s website and donate.
Donate whatever you can as long as it’s something. You can donate by either PayPal or credit card.
Once you put in all of your info, click “review donation”. Another page will come up with a summary
and there will be a place on the left that says "Note to the seller". Click on that and state that your
donation is to go to the Sandy Hook Relief Fund. If you don't want to do it online, you can make a check out to Don't Panic Foundation and mail it to them.
Lets all pull together as a community to make this happen and help out other families that can really use the help.

Tactical Points to Consider (Ladder Deployment)
By: LT. Sam Villani

As we continue to explore and develop options to get our job done with less staffing and more tasks, there are some options that require a step-back analysis to consider the option’s practicality, merit and safety. One such option is using the 20’ straight ladder in lieu of a 24’ or 28’ ladder- the thought being straight ladders are one-person ladders and are easier to place. And a 20’ ladder gets us in the ballpark of a 24’ ladder in some instances.
